Christmas 2006 photos
Some photos from Christmas at Geoff and Colleen’s home.
Dalla’s new hobby
December Hiking Photos
Sarah, Dalla, and I went out hiking this afternnoon and while we were out, I took a few snapshots to test my new camera. You can view the photos in the photo gallery.
Hiking At Devil’s Lake State Park
Earlier today, Sarah, Dalla, and I drove up to Devil’s Lake State Park for an afternoon of hiking. We anticipated finding the park with peak fall color and we weren’t disappointed. The tree were ablaze with plenty of reds, oranges, yellows, and of course some greens. The trails were often covered in fallen leaves and acorns the squirrels hadn’t yet buried. We saw some portions of the park we hadn’t seen before, and we took some photos of ourselves and a few of the things we saw.
When the three of us are out hiking, it’s like being out in public with a celebrity as Dalla gets all of the attention from children and adults alike while we’re barely acknowledged at all. Today, numerous other people talked to her and tried to scratch her. Ironically, she couldn’t care less about other people, unless they have food for her, which none of them do.
Hiking in Kettle Moraine
Sarah, Dalla, and I went hiking in the northern unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest yesterday. We hiked roughly six miles and took a few photos along the way. The gun deer season has started here in Wisconsin, so we were all wearing blaze orange. We made Dalla a blaze orange collar of sorts out of a polyester hunter’s vest since she can’t wear a cap or a vest. The weather was perfect, there were no bugs, and the trails weren’t too crowded. We really enjoyed the day.
AirVenture 2006 Postcards
Some of the photos I took last week at EAA’s AirVenture in Oshkosh are now available in the photo gallery.
Toilet Bomb
If you enjoy pictures of airplanes and their cargoes, you’re sure to enjoy these photos of a toilet bomb employed by US forces during the Vietnam war. Perhaps the North Vietnamese were expecting us to drop the kitchen sink next?
Photos from Pipestone
Sarah, Dalla, and I visited Pipestone National Monument last weekend as part of a larger trip. A handful of photos we took can be found in the photo gallery.
Photos from our trip to Boston
The weekend before last, Sarah and I traveled to Boston to visit family and friends; see how some of our old stomping grounds had changed; and take in a draw or two at the World Men’s Curling Championships. We took some photos of our trip for those who are interested.
Arizona Photos
Some photos we took in Arizona are now available in the Photo Gallery.
More Christmas Photos
Tonight, I uploaded some pictures I took during our Christmas trip to the Photo Gallery.
Christmas Photos
Last night, Mike McGuire generously uploaded some photos he took over the Christmas holiday to the Photo Gallery.
Pictures of Wanted Criminals
See actual pictures of wanted criminals!! You’ll quake in your shoes as you read descriptions of their dastardly deeds. You’ll lean in closer to the monitor to study their faces so you can recognize them in the produce aisle at the grocery store. You may even find yourself dreaming of what you’ll do with all that reward money.
Unfortunately, you can’t do any of that on my website. Instead of wanted criminals, I have pictures that were taken last weekend when Sarah’s parents visited us.
Camping in the Northwoods
Sarah, Dalla, and I spent the weekend camping in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Friday, we drove up to the Northern Highlands-American Legion State Forest; put the dog and our camping gear in our canoe; and paddled out to a primitive backcountry camping site. We spent Friday night, Saturday, and part of Sunday at Allequash Lake Primitive Site 613 (there are only four sites on the whole lake and one of them is closed because it is currently occupied by a bear; so, no, I don’t know why the site has such a high assigned number). We arrived back in Madison this afternoon smelling strongly of Deep Woods Off, wood smoke, and BO.
For those interested parties, we took a few photos during our trip.
Memorial Day Photos
Some pictures that we took recently are now on-line. You can see pictures we took during Bratfest and over Memorial Day.
Pictures from the Road
Sarah, Dalla, and I are currently on an extended tour of the nation East of Madison. At the moment, we’re visiting her parents. However, we have been as far East as DC, and have visited numerous national parks, monuments, and like on our trip. I don’t currently have the time to post many of the pictures we have taken, but I did post a small set of pictures to give you an idea of what we’ve been doing with ourselves.
You’ll Be Sorry…
…that we bought a digital camera last night. Now we can upload all sorts of photos to this site and bore all of our friends and family. We took plenty of bad, meaningless photos already. However, there are three we wanted to share with everyone.
The first photo is a picture of a rain barrel that Sarah built two weeks ago. Some folks had expressed to us a desire to see exactly what a rain barrel looks like.
The second photo is a picture of our tulip garden in bloom. So many people have seen pictures of the house, or have seen the house itself, but very few have seen our house in the Spring when all of our tulips are in bloom.
The third photo is just an interesting photo of Dalla looking out the window.
Sarah did some extensive research, and the camera we purchased is the Olympus C-765 Ultra Zoom. It is neither the top of the line, nor the bottom of the barrel. The only thing we don’t like about it is that it doesn’t run on AA batteries like some of the others we looked at did. So, if we go to a country like Greece or Brazil or the like, we’ll have to make sure that we bring along an appropriate power adapter for the battery recharger.
On the plus side, the camera has a variety of manual options to override most of the automatic settings. In addition, it as a 10x optical zoom. One of our biggest complaints with our last few cameras is that we just couldn’t seem to get “close” enough to distant subjects using the zoom lens. This camera shouldn’t have that problem.
Florida Pictures
We weeded through the chaff and came up with a few bits of wheat. You too can see some of the pictures we took in Florida last week.
Photos From Europe
After many delays, I finally got some of our photos from Europe scanned into my computer and on-line.
Some of the photos this time have an accompanying audio file. We took a Minidisc recorder and a stereo microphone with us on that trip and we recorded some of the sounds we heard. If you just want to check out the recordings (some of which are better than others), check out the set of links on the Recordings page.
Photos of Allequash Lake, Effigy Mounds, and Our House
Today, another roll of film came back from the local film developer. There are pictures of our camping trip to Allequash Lake, Sarah’s coring expedition at Effigy Mounds National Monument, and some things around our house.
