Last night we went to a really good show at The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley. The Freight shows folk, bluegrass, and other acts that don’t necessarily get shows in the other SF Bay Area venues. We went to the show to see Jess Klein, who was performing as part of the group Voices on the Verge. Voices is composed of four women who also have solo careers, and who all have different voices and different styles. However, they still blend well together and they made some really great music last night. We also like the opening act Josh Ritter, although we’d never heard him sing before. Ritter had a great stage presence and really kept the audience into it. Wednesday night I volunteered for one of the Sierra Club’s local offices. I rode the ferry from SF to Oakland spent a couple of hours calling people in the Sacramento area to invite them to a Sierra Club event this weekend in Sacramento. That was the first time I’ve ever been handed a list of names and just started calling them to spread some sort of message. It was certainly a unique experience. I wasn’t asking people for money, however, so that made the calls a bit easier.
