Friday night was watched The Straight Story. It's the story of a man named Alvin Strait who drives his John Deere riding mower across Iowa to visit his ailing brother in Wisconsin. Not a bad movie, but not a great one either. It possibly the only movie I've seen, however, where John Deere probably paid for product placement.
We spent some time this weekend weeding the garden and installing some chicken wire for our peas. The snow peas we planted are growing as though they are being chased out of the ground. The beans we planted are significantly less excited about the prospect of growth, and so far we only have about ten plants. The cantaloupe we planted seems to be doing well, which would be a major change for me. Usually when I plant cantaloupe it sort of struggles out of the ground in mid-July, and maybe, just maybe produces one small rotten cantaloupe.
Last night we went down to Santa Clara and had dinner with a couple of friends. Afterwards, we played a round of miniature golf. I always get a kick out of mini-golf because I get to play it so infrequently. Simple minds, simple pleasures.
