American Express is trying to sell credit cards to people by showing us pictures of famous people and then telling us how long these famous people supposedly have used American Express. One ad, for instance, shows Shaquille O'Neal of the Los Angeles Lakers and explains that he has used American Express since some date in the not too recent past. That's nice, but it doesn't really mean anything. For instance, Shaq makes so much money that he could mismanage his money by using a really poor credit card with high fees and terrible service, and never really have to worry about it. If he drops twenty bucks a month for a period of years on a credit card, that's pocket change. If you really want to sell me a credit card, tell me which one Alan Greenspan is carrying around in his wallet these days.
